2006 Final Rankings

Ohio State as 2006 National Champion? Didn't Florida blow out Ohio State in the championship game that year? Yes, that is true, but according to our analysis, Florida had only the 7th best season going into the bowls. Heading into the bowls, Ohio State was clearly the #1 team, but Boise State, Louisville, Michigan, USC and West Virginia all had a better argument for even being in the championship game against Ohio State than Florida did. As it turns out, even with the blowout loss for Ohio State, none of these teams picked up enough ground with their performance in the bowls to overtake the Buckeyes. (Remember, that in our analysis system, the bowl games are just another game - weighted equally with the rest of the season's games.)

In the off-season, we will be running our computer analysis of each of the previous seasons of college football moving backward through time as far as it makes sense to do so. Here are the final rankings from 2006:
