1935 College Football Final Rankings

In 1935, the last year prior to the advent of the AP writers' college football poll, the most prominent system for awarding a national championship was the Dickinson System, developed by a University of Illinois professor. Dickinson's system awarded the national championship trophy that year to SMU. A poll of sports writers (but not the AP poll) declared Minnesota the national champion. Other systems chose the Princeton Tigers. All three teams were undefeated and untied at the end of the regular season (although SMU, the Southwest Conference champions lost in the Rose Bowl to Stanford 7-0). Our analysis declares it a tie between Princeton and SMU (even taking into account the Rose Bowl loss).
