Most Successful Top-Division College Football Programs of the 40's (1941-1950)

Because of World War II, things were pretty unsettled for college football during the 40's. We only ranked teams who competed at the top division of football for at least four years during the decade (which eliminated most of the very successful military teams that sprang up to compete with the major college teams for the duration of the war). According to our analysis, the program of the decade for the years 1941-1950 was the Michigan Wolverines.

The Wolverines fininshed in the Top Twenty every single year and were ranked #1 in our analysis for 1948 and #2 for 1947. Second-place Notre Dame had, in some ways, an even more impressive decade, finishing #1 twice and in the top three five times. However, in 1950, the Fighting Irish finished the season 4-4-1 and fell to #67 in that season's rankings, allowing the Wolverines to pass them in the final decade rankings.
